Cleveland Leadership Center

“We knew if we made an investment in training more staff, we would reap great rewards in efficiency. Now everyone feels like they have a stake in our success.”
– Marianne Crosley, Cleveland Leadership Center

Challenge

The Cleveland Leadership Center already owned The Raiser’s Edge® and NetCommunity™, but due to turnover and structure, staff members lacked expertise in the products and had little confidence in their abilities to use them. With a complex menu of programs, events and constituencies, the Center searched for a partner that had web development experience with nonprofits and that could also get them up to speed on the possibilities of The Raiser’s Edge®.

The Center found Nonprofit Garden (formerly Beyond Nines), and was immediately impressed with the time that the team took to listen and understand the nuances of the Center’s objectives and challenges.

Solution

The Leadership Center’s entire staff — 10 full-time and three part-time staff members — participated in a two-part training series. The training emphasized hands-on shortcuts and quality control for managing the website.

A few months later, they returned to do a refresher and Q&A now that the Cleveland Leadership Center had a few months under their belts. “People have the tendency to get rusty and fall back into bad habits,” says Crosley. “The return visit made sure that our team continued to work in lockstep and stay coordinated.”

Results

The pay-off has been substantial. According to Crosley, “The difference is huge! Now, everyone on staff has the tools and can take ownership for their specific areas. They can better foster relationships with program participants and alumni and offer better customer service. We no longer have a log-jam of changes sitting with our web designer. And we haven’t had any interruptions of service since we made the hosting switch.”

The Center continues to turn to the same team for on-call assistance, refinements and enhancements for their website.
